thanksgiving prayer
Living life in the thankful lane
Our thankfulness is like a bedrock to our lives, it keeps our feet upon the firm foundation of
God's saving grace. Amazingly it works! To sing songs of praise and live with this gratitude in our hearts is a gift from God.
Does it make worldly sense to do this? Are we not better to see ourselves half empty, to remain absent to the good things in the midst of the bad? We are children of the kingdom of God, no longer chained by the sin and godlessness of the world. As followers of Christ we follow him through hardship, suffering and pain - into heaven. Therefore our praise is a brilliant reminder to ourselves, those around us and those that oppose the truth, that Jesus is alive! And yes, as we begin to "count our blessings", live with gratitude and lift our eyes to heaven, we can drink in the truth, majesty and promises that have been laid out before us.
Our thanks can lift our hearts each day
Our thanks can lift our hearts each day
Our thanks can build your church
Our thanks can wave a flag to say,
On this day it was done.
Our thanks can change each circumstance
Our thanks can shift and grow
Our thanks is more than afterthought
It's kingdom work begun.
And so my heart will stretch out wide
Despite my circumstance
For on the road of thankfulness
I return to your Son.
I stand beside the empty cross
And understand again.
That I've so much to thank you for,
My Saviour and my friend.
Family Thanksgiving Prayer
(a blessing suitable to say before family dinner)
Dear God,
What a joy it is to gather together as family to give thanks to you. How can we express the wonderful goodness you bless us with?
The food on our table tells of your provision and nurturing in our lives.
Our dear friends and family are such good gifts and are so special in every way.
From the youngest to the oldest we see your love within the generations of our lives.
Just like the fruit of the field there are the tender signs of promise in our children - Lord, please bless them all.
And amongst us the sweet ripened fruit that brings wisdom and grace.
Lord, bless those of us who age.
Most of all, may we always value the love we share, and walk together with strength, hope and faith into this next year.
Amen.

Lord, thank you for walking with us through the seasons of our lives.
For the winter, when we are held safe in your arms through the darkness.
For the hope of spring, as we are filled with new promise and life.
For summer time, full of warmth and colour
And for autumn days as leaves fall to seed new growth.
You are always with us.
Amen.

I will shout out your greatness day after day
Hear the vast oceans swelling with praise.
I will sing in my heart a sweet grace melody
Of love overcoming and forgiving me.
I will move in your ways, feel the rhythm of truth
With passion and joy, I’ll rise up anew!
I’ll rest in your goodness and wonderful ways
For your promises keep me and hold me so safe.
How I thank you Lord.
